23, 2005: Harlem Live! Voices Against AIDS: A Night of Slam
Poetry & Music
On
September 23rd, students from all over New York City packed Harlem Live at NYC SIA's first benefit show for the 2005-2006 academic year! The benefit show
raised over $1400 for the Clinica de Enfermidades de Immunologia in Santo
Domingo in the Dominican Republic. Bringing together six professional spoken
word artists and musicians, as well as youth slam poets from the New York area,
the show discussed everything from HIV/AIDS to politics to love and history. The
collaboration with Harlem Live, a student publication center in Harlem,
Manhattan, helped to further NYC SIA's mission of mobilizing and engaging
student populations.
