WORLD AIDS WEEK
For the past 3 years,
NYC SIA has organized New York University's World AIDS Week. The week
brings students, faculty, administration and community leaders
together to discuss the intrinsic issues of the pandemic in an effort
to motivate action. The week commemorates World AIDS Day on December
1st with a week long series of lectures, workshops, days of action and
benefit shows. Past guest speakers include Julie Davids, Executive
Director of CHAMP (Community HIV AIDS Mobilization Project), Paul Zeitz, Executive Director of Global AIDS Alliance and Michael Riggs,
WHO Senior Information Officer.
According to UNAIDS,
there were close to 40 million people living with HIV/AIDS and 5
million new infections at the end of 2004. About half of all new
infections are among people aged 15-24. More than 95% of people living
with HIV/AIDS are in the developing world.
Planning for World
AIDS Week 2005 has already begun. If you have suggestions for guest
speakers, please contact
Caitlin Chandler.
Until We Find a Cure, Everyday is
